Universities and funding organisations are increasingly calling for research projects which have societal impact and promote effective knowledge transfer. However, comprehensively and reliably measuring the extent to which various forms of impact are achieved, and uniformly evaluating that impact, have so far proven to be intractable problems.
Along which dimensions should the impact of research projects be measured? What are reliable indicators and appropriate metrics for which types of impact? When should impact be considered a success?
This panel brings together university admins, practitioners and experts to discuss which metrics for impact would be feasible and desirable, what would count as appropriate indicators for impact, and how to best document and evaluate them.
